Posted Thursday December 20, 2012 7:13 PM GMT

Picking up some toys for the lucky kids on her shopping list, Jessica Alba went to Target in Los Angeles on Thursday (December 20).

The “Sin City” star sported a black leather jacket, jeans, and heeled boots as she loaded up her substantial haul into her vehicle.

Enjoying the holiday traditions, Jessica recently tweeted a photo of herself with one of her favorite Christmas cards from a fellow actress with the caption, “So of course @mindykaling ur #Xmas card is the best ever -duh.”

In career news, soon you can see the 31-year-old reprise her graphic novel-based role of Nancy Callahan in the sequel, “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.”

ESPN’s Rob Parker apologizes for comments about RG3

ESPN analyst Rob Parker upset a lot of people last week when he called Robert Griffin III a “cornball brother,” even though Griffin’s family responded to the ridiculous statements with class.

Parker has since been suspended by the network. On Wednesday, he began to say he’s sorry.

“I blew it and I’m sincerely sorry,” Parker wrote. “I completely understand how the issue of race in sports is a sensitive one and needs to be handled with great care. This past Thursday I failed to do that. I believe the intended topic is a worthy one. Robert’s thoughts about being an African-American quarterback and the impact of his phenomenal success have been discussed in other media outlets, as well as among sports fans, particularly those in the African-American community.

“The failure was in how I chose to discuss it on First Take, and in doing so, turned a productive conversation into a negative one. I regrettably introduced some points that I never should have and I completely understand the strong response to them, including ESPN’s reaction. Perhaps most importantly, the attention my words have brought to one of the best and brightest stars in all of sports is an unintended and troubling result. Robert Griffin III is a talented athlete who not only can do great things on the field, but off the field handles himself in a way we are all taught — with dignity, respect and pride.

“I’ve contacted his agent with hopes of apologizing to Robert directly. As I reflect on this and move forward, I will take the time to consider how I can continue to tackle difficult, important topics in a much more thoughtful manner.”

The apology is good to see. It is certainly better than the alternative. It would be even more impactful if Parker’s previous tweets after the comments didn’t tell followers they were uneducated, silly, pathetic, and typical. Those responses remain on Parker’s page.

Jesse Ronson guns for UFC contract following weekend win over Ryan Healy

Sore hands and feet are Jesse Ronson’s only career roadblocks at this moment.

Ronson believes a recent victory over fellow lightweight Ryan Healy proves he’s capable of joining his well-known teammates in the UFC.

“I would like for this fight to put me on the next level, but we’ll see how it goes,” he told MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com).

Ronson (12-2) dominated Healy (23-12) over three rounds to earn a unanimous-decision win at this past Friday’s Score Fighting Series 7 event, which took place at Hamilton Place Theatre in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The event’s main card, including Ronson’s feet, aired on AXS TV.

One judge scored the lopsided fight 30-25 in favor of Ronson, a native of nearby London, Ontario. The crowd, including 75 of his friends and family, chanted “UFC” during the action.

Ronson, though, snickered at the thought of a UFC offer on his desk.

“I didn’t know they came that soon,” he joked. “Was I supposed to get it on Saturday?”

The 26-year-old has had far more time to win over his training partners at London’s Adrenaline Training Center, which Sam Stout, Chris Horodecki and Mark Hominick founded. An endorsement from the Canadian MMA stars won him the representation of agent Rob Roveta.

“They’re pulling for me,” Ronson said. “We’ll see if I get that call.”

The resources at Ronson’s disposal were considerably smaller in his early career. He trained at a kickboxing academy in London and had few grappling partners.

“I would do jiu-jitsu with the guys that were there,” he said, “with guys that didn’t know what jiu-jitsu was, and I was fighting MMA.”

That changed when Ronson joined Adrenaline in September 2010. Although he went 1-2 in his next three outings, including an eye-opening loss to the well-rounded Mike Ricci of “The Ultimate Fighter 16″ fame, he has won his past seven fights.

And Healy, who’s brother is current Strikeforce contender Pat Healy, couldn’t keep the fight on the mat to ground and pound him.

Although satisfied with his win, Ronson expressed frustration at being unable to finish his opponent, who took no fewer than three head kicks in the waining minute of the third and final round.

“I was just upset because I think I landed six or seven clean ones with my power leg and two or three with my lead leg, and I was like, ‘This guy has to go down from one of these,’” Ronson said. “So I threw the one and he wobbled, so I’m like, ‘One more and he’s going down.’ I hit him with the second one, and he didn’t go down. The more he didn’t go down, the more I wanted to hurt him and try to knock him out.”

The knockout didn’t come, but Ronson certainly made a statement about his abilities.

If the UFC comes calling, he said he’d like to fight in February. But in reality, any time will do.

“If they call me and say, ‘Do you want to fight this guy,’ I’m not going to say no,” Ronson said.

Harper says lockout dangerous business for NHL

The NHL is treading on dangerous territory with its second lengthy lockout in under a decade, Prime Minister Stephen Harper warned in a television interview Tuesday.

In an interview with TVA in Quebec on the 94th day of the lockout, Harper said the situation is disappointing all around.

Harper said that the league is risking its brand and relationship with sponsors as a result of the impasse.

Harper, an enthusiastic fan of the sport, said he’ll be turning his attention soon to Canada’s team at the world junior hockey championships in Russia.

In August, the prime minister said if the lockout were to occur, he hoped that Canadians would get enthusiastic about other hockey teams and leagues, including university, junior and women’s hockey.

U.S. President Barack Obama has also been asked about the NHL lockout at least twice since it began in September. Last week, Obama told a Minneapolis television station that the league and its players’ association should “do right by the fans.”

I See Your $75K Cancer Donation & Raise You $25K!

EXCLUSIVE

121712_stevie_wonder_launch
Stevie Wonder is following Charlie Sheen‘s lead — donating a TON of cash to help a little girl fight cancer … and not that size matters, but Stevie’s check was bigger.

Stevie was performing at the Nokia Theatre in L.A. last Saturday when he invited 10-year-old Jasmine Faulk on stage — and presented her and her dad with a giant $100,000 check.

Stevie crowned the gesture by serenading Faulk with a rendition of “Isn’t She Lovely” — so if you don’t feel like getting teary-eyed … don’t watch the video.

Oh yeah, Jasmine also grabbed the mic and said, “I love you Stevie!” before giving him a big adorable hug. Take that, feelings.

TMZ broke the story … Charlie donated $75,000 to Jasmine’s fund last week when he caught wind of her story through his stunt double Eddie Braun. Eddie had already donated $25,000 himself.

As for the Stevie connection … we’re told Jasmine’s father — a Hermosa Beach police officer — has worked privately for Stevie since 1997.

RG3′s Washington Redskins jersey is NFL’s top seller

Kirk Cousins suddenly is a very popular man among Washington Redskins fans, but he’s no Robert Griffin III. Then again, RG3 is the most popular player the NFL has seen in a long time.

From NFLShop.com:
Robert Griffin III gear.

An NFL spokeswoman told ESPN.com on Monday that Griffin already has sold more jerseys this year than any player in a single season since the league started tracking the numbers six years ago. It’s not particularly surprising, but it speaks to Griffin’s huge influence.

The previous record holder was Brett Favre, who held the top spot from his stays with the New York Jets (2008) and Minnesota Vikings (2009). Peyton Manning’s Denver Broncos jersey is No. 2 this year and No. 4 all time.

Griffin’s jersey sales are a sure sign we will see plenty of RG3 commercials and everything else over the next decade. There is a healthy debate over his NFL Rookie of the Year candicacy with Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, but there’s no doubt who resonates most with the public. Luck is sixth in jersey sales (playing in Indianapolis doesn’t help).

After Griffin and Peyton Manning, here’s the rest of the top five, courtesy of NFLShop.com: Aaron Rodgers, Eli Manning and Tom Brady. It’s a quarterback’s league.
